Freight Management Application
A bespoke freight management application for Network Rail
An intuitive UI
Network Rail, a leading provider of railway infrastructure in the UK, sought to streamline its freight management operations with the introduction of a cutting-edge Freight Management Application. As the lead web designer tasked with bringing this vision to life, I embarked on a mission to design an intuitive and efficient user interface (UI) that would revolutionise freight management for Network Rail.

Primary challenges
One of the primary challenges of this project was the incredibly short deadline. With time constraints looming large, there was immense pressure to deliver a fully functional UI within a limited timeframe, necessitating efficient time management and prioritisation of tasks.
The Freight Management Application needed to cater to a diverse set of users, including freight operators, logistics managers, and railway personnel. Balancing the complex requirements of these stakeholders while maintaining a cohesive and user-friendly interface posed a significant challenge.
Seamless integration with existing legacy systems was essential to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to ongoing operations. Overcoming compatibility issues and ensuring interoperability with legacy infrastructure presented additional hurdles in the design process.
Rapid Prototyping with Figma
Leveraging the versatility of Figma, we adopted a rapid prototyping approach to expedite the design process. By creating wireframes and prototypes iteratively, we were able to visualise concepts, gather feedback, and iterate swiftly, thereby maximising productivity and meeting the project deadline. Prioritising user experience and accessibility, we crafted an intuitive UI that streamlined freight management processes and empowered users to navigate the application seamlessly. Clear visual hierarchy, intuitive navigation paths, and contextual cues were implemented to enhance usability and reduce cognitive load.
Measuring the success
Exceeding client expectations
Despite the tight deadline, the UI design for Network Rail's Freight Management Application was delivered on schedule, exceeding client expectations. The successful completion of the project within such a short timeframe stands as a testament to the dedication, expertise, and agility of the design team.

We are immensely impressed with the exceptional work delivered by Chemcial Design on the Freight Management Application project. Despite the challenging deadline, they exhibited unwavering professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail, ultimately delivering a UI that surpassed our expectations.
